Dr. Zieve provides cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) for depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance dependence, insomnia and other sleep disruption, and related problems in adults. His approach involves flexibly, collaboratively, and creatively applying evidence-based treatment principles to help his clients find relief and meet their goals. He believes that the most effective therapy starts with a thorough understanding of each client's unique circumstances and strengths and grows in the context of a warm and empathetic relationship. He strives to provide culturally competent and humble care to people of all genders, sexual orientations, races/ethnicities, nationalities, faiths, and abilities.

Clinical Training and Qualifications

Dr. Zieve received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2023. He is a postdoctoral fellow and registered Psychological Associate (License # PSB94027393) of Dr. Jacqueline Persons at the Oakland CBT Center, where he is working to complete the requirements to become a licensed psychologist in California. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Veteran's Affairs hospital in Seattle, WA. He has received training in specialized forms of CBT including cognitive processing therapy for PTSD, prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD, and cognitive behavior therapy for insomnia. He also has experience delivering motivational interviewing for substance use concerns. 

Research Interests

Dr. Zieve's research interests involve identifying and honing the most potent ingredients of cognitive behavior therapy in order to improve treatment efficacy. To date his work has focused primarily on optimizing CBT for depression. He has published his findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented papers at national and international conferences. Dr. Zieve's CV can be accessed here.

Hours & Fees

Dr. Zieve meets with clients by appointment only, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. He works with clients at our location in Rockridge and he offers the option of using video sessions if clinically appropriate for clients who are located in California. His fee is $200 for a 50-minute therapy session. He does not accept insurance but will provide an invoice that clients can submit for reimbursement if their insurance offers out-of-network coverage.
